Discover the value of a future-fit organisation

We are living in a rapidly changing world. Volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity and disruption are the typical symptoms. In this context, focusing on system value is becoming ever-more critical to business success. Transformation usually happens in three different phases, “Discover Value” being the first one. The core questions to be answered:

  • WHY do we need to achieve system value?
  • WHAT is the potential value of an integrated, context-driven and purposeful approach towards future-fitness?
  • HOW can we empower individuals, and the organisations they are part of, to discover system value?

The ACER process

Any change starts with you and your passion. Ultimately, transformation is about doing. Doing things differently and/or doing different things. Doing things right and doing the right things. In other words: it is about how to RESPOND!, at best based on systems thinking. Before we can respond and take action, there are three more steps required. At SGA, we call this the ACER process.

Having gone through the ACER process, individuals will have a deep intrinsic motivation for change and find it easy to attract others to create momentum, to get the ball rolling.

The ACER process: Awake! Comprehend! Embrace! Respond!

AWAKE!

A typical trigger is a deep sense that something is changing dramatically. Motivators at the individual level can be an incomparable experience, a groundbreaking insight, and/or a discussion on fundamentals with someone we highly appreciate. All this can cause a strong desire for change. As individuals, we recognise that something is going on that asks for our immediate attention. We AWAKE!, which is anything but self-evident.

COMPREHEND!

To comprehend requires awakening, awareness. As a consequence, we want to build up understanding. We strive to gather information, share views and analyse data. Ideally, we thoroughly understand why things happen as they do, what is happening, and how it will probably change our lives. We hopefully develop an individual sensitivity to possible solutions. Facts that are revealed during this process are not always to our liking, so we may deepen our problem awareness as well. In any case, comprehension usually results in the individual intention to take action. We COMPREHEND! the need for change.

EMBRACE!

To embrace requires awakening and comprehension. As a species, we seek purpose and meaning; in other words, a deeper sense. After having found answers to questions like “Why is this happening now?”, “What does it mean for us (as a society, organisation, group of people, family, etc.)?”, “What are the consequences for me personally?”, “How will the world (society as a whole, my environment, my organisation, etc.) react in the near future?”, and “Who will take action?”, to embrace requires (individual) motivation. Ultimately we EMBRACE! the need for change.

RESPOND!

To respond requires awakening, comprehending and embracing the need for change. As individuals, we no longer want to stand on the side-lines. We are not willing to wait for others to (re)act and/or start to drive change. We want to build examples, right now! We already have the vision of an organisation that no longer fears competition. We envision a future developing towards an inspiring, thriving enterprise. We want to set an example, right now! Action is what really counts, not the intention. In essence, to RESPOND! means to take the first of many steps towards positive change.

At SGA, we help organisations discover value, e.g. by attending inspiring keynotes and workshops, going through compact trainings and well-structured processes. As a consequence, they will be able to design value and enjoy a new quality of collaboration and co-creation.

WHY is it important?

To achieve future-fitness, we must rethink how to create long-term system value in business. However, navigating safely is becoming more and more difficult. Whether we think as individuals or on behalf of an organisation, an in-depth understanding of the context in which we live and operate is becoming ever more challenging. At the same time, this understanding is the key to developing a new and better way of managing the business. By taking a summarised view of the two waves of challenges – the TECHNOLOGY WAVE focusing on new technologies and digital transformation, and the SUSTAINABILITY WAVE covering societal and ecological system boundaries – we provide deep insight into how individuals and businesses can become truly fit for the future.

WHO benefits?

This workshop has been designed for entrepreneurs, business leaders, decision-makers, strategic consultants and investors. We target senior managers who are aware of the grand challenges that we are facing and are willing to disrupt the status quo.

WHY is it important?

Nowadays, businesses are increasingly under pressure from the growing complexity and disruption encountered in almost all industries. Against this background, boards, leadership teams and consultants search for innovative and sustainable concepts to make their organisations truly fit for the future.

WHO benefits?

We have created this course for all those who believe in context-driven and purposeful leadership and innovation. The key targets are entrepreneurs, board members, leaders, change makers, investors and strategic consultants who feel the need to reinvent their business.

j

WHAT you get

The training includes methods, instruments and tools that are proven in many industries and have been created for immediate practical application. By including case studies and explaining the procedure and milestones in our projects, we show how to embed purpose and future-fitness at all levels of an organisation.

TIME required

Two days, preferably at an inspiring off-site location surrounded by unspoilt nature.

VALUE provided

The participants gain a thorough understanding of what it means to take a systems view. In just two days they learn to apply different frameworks and tools, empowering them to derive a purposeful strategy and an actionable plan in the pursuit of future-fitness.

Programme “Making Organisations Fit for the future”

u

WHY is it important?

In order to make an organisation fit for the future, various organisational units need to work together. Usually, key stakeholders are informed and/or involved. Our programme provides a step-by-step cooperation concept that guarantees a structured process, the involvement of all relevant actors and stakeholders, a shared purpose, and the use of a common language.

WHO benefits?

A defined leadership team (core team), selected actors at various levels of the organisation (to be involved stepwise) and selected partners (professional services partners such as consultants, suppliers, distribution partners, functional specialists, investors, etc.). Ideally, the interdisciplinary core team includes at least one top-level decision-maker, such as a board member or general manager.

j

WHAT you get

The programme usually starts with a one-day kick-off workshop involving the core team with ideally 6 – 12 members, depending on the purpose, objectives and individual context, plus the SGA moderators. Within a timeframe of minimum 8 – 12 weeks, 1 – 2 other workshops are organised to establish a shared purpose and common language, to analyse and assess issues through the systems lens, develop strategic goals and align the activities at the involved levels of the organisation. Between the workshops, the team members go through various work sessions/phases. SGA provides a structured process as a whole, including moderation, coaching and concrete tasks and timeframes.

TIME required

Minimum of 8 – 12- weeks, including 2 – 3 workshops (including the kick-off event) and (moderated) working sessions. Depending on the objectives and the context, the programme will take more time and can evolve into a complete transformation journey.

VALUE provided

The programme “Making Organisations Fit for the Future” provides a proven, well-structured framework for initiating and driving change towards future-fitness within an organisation and its value chain. The involved core and enhanced team members gain a thorough understanding of the challenge, of the real meaning of taking a systems view, and of how to develop a shared purpose and vision. In addition, it provides the basis for optimising and aligning the overall business model and strategy, and for boosting innovation and performance.
